Translation allows us to enjoy literature that has been written in a different language. Translation is in itself an act of writing as you get to recreate a text from scratch. In this class you will be shown how to harness your love for language and taught how to capture the sensibilities in a text through translation. In this workshop, you will not only learn how to translate both English and French texts, but also what makes a great literary translation.
The class will take you through the process of reading through a text in its original language, working through the careful act of translating it into a different language. All this will be under the guidance of Edwige-Renée Dro, who is an experienced writer and translator working with English and French.
It is recommended that participants have knowledge of both English and French and have a keen interest in working with both languages. Submission will entail up to 3,000 words of a story in either French or English.
