In novel writing, the plot, which is the sequential manner in which the events of your story unfold over time, is considered one of the most crucial elements. A strong plot takes readers on a journey with your characters, enchanting and leaving them wondering what will happen next. It drives how your characters react to the world around them, how they respond to obstacles, and, perhaps, evolve. However, plotting a novel is often daunting and can feel overwhelming for both aspiring and established authors.
In this class, you will acquire the skills necessary to overcome the arduous yet ultimately rewarding endeavour that is plotting your novel. Equipped with these skills, you will be able to write a novel that boasts a cohesive narrative and, essentially, makes sense to the readers. This class will cover various plotting methods and things to consider before starting out. It will also help you to identify what method works best for you and your story.
The four-week-long class will be taught by multi-award-winning South African writer Rešoketšwe Manenzhe, whose debut novel, Scatterlings, won the 2020 Dinaane Debut Fiction Award. The class is open to anyone, both beginners and authors already at work on their manuscripts. The goal is that, in the end, you will learn how to create an incredible plot that will ease your path toward writing a great novel.
